7th Street redevelopment underway soon
As part of its annual roads and utilities works program, the City of Fernie is redeveloping 7th Street from Highway 3 to 2nd Avenue. The works will be constructed by BA Blacktop and Bob Mitchell Excavating and will commence on June 12 and continue until approximately September 15, the city reported on its website.
To ensure public safety, the road will be periodically closed to general traffic. Through traffic will be maintained for emergency vehicles where possible. Detour routes will be in place. Residential street parking during this time will be restricted to the adjacent avenues and lanes. Please obey posted construction signage and barricades.
Curbside waste removal services during this time will occur from the avenues and lanes. Please refrain from placing waste receptacles on 7th Street for curbside pickup.
The redeveloped roadway features:
Concrete sidewalk on one side
Concrete curb and gutter
New roadway pavement
Improved roadway drainage
Gravel parking lane on north side
Utility poles located off the road
During winter months (mid-November to mid-April), on-street parking will be prohibited to allow for safe passage of two-way traffic.
Residential on-street parking will be available on the adjacent avenues and lanes. Additionally, parking on the 7th Street gravel parking lane will be available for residents who wish to dig-in and maintain specific spots.
