City applying for multi-purpose community centre grant

The City of Fernie will be submitting a grant funding application to the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure (CCRI) and Rural and Northern Communities Program funding streams for a multi-purpose community centre.

These grants are offered through the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada.

The Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Program is intended to improve access and quality of cultural, recreational and community infrastructure through new or renewed infrastructure projects. The Rural and Northern Communities Program provides additional eligibility for the CCRI grant and is specific for communities with smaller populations.

“The City of Fernie is excited with the announcement of these funding streams. This opportunity provides the community with funding for major projects such as a Multi-Purpose Community Centre. We look forward to the completion of the grant application and hope to see this project become a reality in Fernie,” said Mayor Ange Qualizza, “If we are successful in this grant application process, we will be meeting with community stakeholders to inform the project design process. Our goal with this opportunity is to provide the community with a valuable asset for years to come.”
