CWL of Fernie join in special Rosary

By Mary Giuliano

Saturday, October 15, marked the 105th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, Portugal when a crowd of over 70,000 people witnessed the sun make “unusual and jerky movements that defied all cosmic laws.”

This was preceded by a string of events stated to have occurred miraculously on October 13, 1917 and witnessed by three shepherd children, Lucia Santos and Francisco and Jacinta Marto. That year the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the three children on the 13th day of the month of May to October with the final vision ending with the spectacular “Miracle of the Sun” witnessed by 70,000 people who had gathered there.

In 1930 the Catholic Church approved the apparitions seen by the children as worthy of belief and today Fatima is one of the most important Marian shrines in the world with millions of people making the pilgrimage to the site each year.

On Saturday in union over 22,000 rallies were held across North America including the Catholic Women’s League of Fernie Holy Family Parish.

The coordinated effort was held on the same day and noon hour across the continent.

In Fernie, the ladies met outside the Church to pray the special rosary for peace in the world and to commemorate the anniversary of the miracle at Fatima.
