Dumpster Art Painting Party June 30

The Out of the Box Dumpster Art Party is back this year, June 30 from 4-9 p.m.

Watch as nine Fernie dumpsters are transformed into works of public art by local artists, while enjoying music, beer and art activities for the whole family, including painting of the community dumpster!

The Out of the Box Dumpster Project is going into it’s fifth year and will be the biggest yet, scheduled later to escape the midday sun, kick off the Canada Day long weekend celebrations, and for the first time, is complete with a beer tent.

Artists get started on the Friday night (June 29 – drop by to see the first stages), voting opens on the Saturday and the people’s choice winner is announced on July 1.

We have returning artists Brina Schenk, Peggy Black, Scott Cable, Joey Kosolofski, as well as artists representing The Fernie Pride Society, The Cause We Can Sisterhood, and high school student Catrin Merritt for the Fernie Academy.

Come down, talk to the artists, contribute to the community dumpster and have a drink to the sweet sounds of DJ Jay Ray.

Out of the Box is intended as a way for our regional art community to bring beauty and creativity to a seemingly mundane item like a trash dumpster. Once completed the dumpsters will be placed strategically around Victoria Avenue as well as the Highway 3 corridor.

The commercial dumpsters have been generously donated by Southeast Disposal. This project couldn’t happen without the support of Southeast Disposal, City of Fernie, Fernie Fix, Royal Hotel, Home Hardware and Teck.

Out of the Box: Dumpster Art Painting Party is being held at The Arts Station, Station Square 601-1st St Fernie.
