Fernie issues Boil Water Notice
Effective immediately, the City of Fernie has issued a Boil Water Notice (BWN) as a result of damage to the Fairy Creek Chlorination System.
All users of the water system must refrain from consuming water unless it has been boiled for a minimum of at least three minutes. Until repaired, the city advises water is NOT being treated with Chlorine and is considered unsafe to drink until further notice.
Public facilities: For your part, and as required by B.C.’s Drinking Water Protection Regulation, you must:
- display the attached BWN poster in common areas;
- post the attached BWN sink notice at every sink or drinking water fountain accessible to the public; and
- verbally advise your clientele of the BWN, as opportunities arise.
In addition, you must provide a safe alternative to tap water (e.g. bottled water).
The City of Fernie working to make repairs as quickly as possible. Interior Health has been fully notified, and the public will be advised when the repairs are complete.
The BWN will be rescinded when the City of Fernie completes repairs of the system. The City of Fernie and Interior Health recommend that you run water from all faucets for at least five minutes to flush the lines prior to resuming normal operations.
We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for doing your part to protect public health. For more information, contact the City of Fernie at 250-423-6817, or www.fernie.ca.
