Fernie ski shuttle starting free for the holiday season

The local ski shuttle between the city and Fernie Alpine Resort will be up and running starting with theĀ evening serviceĀ Thursday, December 23Ā after delays with repairs and licensing caused by the supply chain issues from the November flooding across B.C.

ā€œWe thank everyone for their patience and would like to celebrate the snowy holiday season by making the shuttle free to all riders through Christmas and New Years and will confirm the date to reactivate fares in the new year,ā€ expressed Mark Ormandy from Fernie Alpine Resort.

The Shuttle Task Force has been working hard to get the shuttle service running and recognize the inconvenience to many for the late start.Ā Ā The regular shuttle schedule operates on the hour starting before 8 a.m. until just past 10 p.m. every day with a short break during lunch and between the afternoon and evening service.

All riders ages 12 and up will be required to be fully vaccinated.Ā Ā All riders must wear a mask as well.

The shuttle schedule can be found online atĀ www.FernieSkiShuttle.com.Ā Ā Please note that on Christmas Day the shuttle will have a late start of 10:30 a.m. Seats on the shuttle are first come first served.

ā€œIā€™m stoked that we can offer the holiday service for free this year,ā€ said Jikke Gyorki from Tourism Fernie. ā€œThe Shuttle Task Force, a collaboration between the City of Fernie, Tourism Fernie, the Fernie Chamber of Commerce and Fernie Alpine Resort, wanted to do something special for our visitors and locals given the challenges faced.ā€

The shuttle service helps bring skiers and riders back and forth between the ski resort and town, but is also used to shuttle riders into town for dining and shopping during the day or have dinner and drinks in the evening.

In January soon after the holidays regular fares will be reinstated at $4 per single ride, with 5 & under free with a paying adult.

Ten-ride booklets are now available at Guest Services at the ski resort for $35 each including tax.Ā Ā Regular riders can also inquire about a season pass at Guest Services.

Fernie Alpine Resort may be in need of additional part-time Class 4 drivers to support the service this season.

For anyone interested or available please reach out to Human Resources at Fernie Alpine Resort.
