Ghostrider goalie KIJHL second star of the month

McCoy Bidewell of the Fernie Ghostriders and Jack Henderson and Payton McDonald-Corea of the Osoyoos Coyotes have been named the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s (KIJHL) 3 Stars of the Month for October.

Henderson – 1st Star

Henderson leads the KIJHL with eight goals and 18 points in nine games. The Quesnel product has had four multi-point games this season, including a three-goal, seven-point performance versus the Princeton Posse on Oct. 23 in a 13-7 win. In his last three games, all Coyote wins, Henderson has 11 points. Among his 18 points are four power-play assists. Henderson debuted in the KIJHL in 2019-20 and had 10 goals and 31 points in 43 games.

Bidewell – 2nd Star

The Grande Prairie, Alberta product has all six of the Ghostriders’ victories. He has turned aside 310 of 326 shots for a .951 save percentage (second in league) and 1.94 goals against average (fifth in league) with one shutout. After losing his first two games, giving up seven goals, Bidewell has helped the Ghostriders climb to second in the Eddie Mountain Division with six straight wins. His shutout win came in a 1-0 shootout victory over the Kimberley Dynamiters. His wins rank second in the league. Bidewell was named the KIJHL 2nd Star of the Week on Monday.

McDonald-Corea – 3rd Star

The St. Albert, Alberta product leads Coyotes blueliners in scoring with two goals and 11 points and is fourth on his team in points. His totals put him 17th in the league. Of his two goals, one is a game-winner against the Summerland Steam. McDonald-Corea has had three multi-point games since Oct. 15.
