The City of Fernie and District of Sparwood both benefitted from the from the Ministry of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development’s Community Recreation Program March 21, when Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett delivered $750,937 in funding.

Fernie received $350,000,000 for soccer fields and $400,000 is going to Sparwood for an energy retrofit to the Sparwood Leisure Centre.

“We are truly appreciative of this funding as Fernie has a huge number of soccer kids – over 400 participants – and the present fields are in need of repair plus we are in need of another soccer field. This news will be welcomed by all Fernie residents for sure,” stated Mayor Giuliano.
