Fernie is a historic and adventurous mountain town that offers a diversity of experiences to authentically engage in culture, history, nature, community and adventure. The new Iconic Fernie App brings together and enhances these local experiences into various thematic self-guided tours for both visitors and residents starting with six unique themes.

Iconic Fernie had humble beginnings with the popular Heritage Walking Tour. This walking tour provided more compelling, coordinated and packaged way to explore Fernie’s historic buildings and history. But there is much more of Fernie to explore and engage with; opportunities to enrich, learn, appreciate, have fun, rejuvenate and revere Fernie, authentically.

Technology today provides an opportunity to bring experiences, places and people together. This new ‘app’ way of exploring Fernie uses your GPS map function on your device to easily find all the locations desired and at one’s own pace, plus you can also choose to collect points for local rewards.

The App’s foundation was developed by 468 Insider, which also created the BC Ale Trail app, allowing Tourism Fernie to create the unique tours and content focusing on experiences during spring, summer and fall season.

“We’re really excited to launch this app,” exclaimed Jikke Gyorki, Executive Officer for Tourism Fernie.

“The idea started before COVID-19 hit to create a self-guided tour app to enrich a visitors experience in our community, to encourage a greater knowledge and appreciation of everything Fernie, to encourage shoulder season visitation, visitor dispersion and shopping local. We plan to expand our current six themed tours into more.”
