RCMP await clearance to begin arena investigation
RCMP investigators continue to work with the City of Fernie, Fernie Fire Department and other resources in preparation for the entry into the Fernie Memorial Arena, following Tuesday’s fatal workplace incident.
RCMP investigators will commence a scene examination and investigation into Wednesday’s fatal workplace incident once it is deemed safe to enter the scene.
On Wednesday October 18, Elk Valley RCMP and resources from the RCMP Southeast District continue to work with other responding agencies which include the BC Coroners Services, Worksafe BC, Interior Health, Ministry of Environment, resources from the City of Fernie and a hazardous materials team from Calgary. It was confirmed on Tuesday, that the incident resulted in the death of three adult men.
Elk Valley RCMP investigators are preparing for their scene examination in order to commence their investigation into the ammonia leak incident.
“The Fernie RCMP investigators and RCMP Forensic Ident Examiners will initiate the scene examination and investigation in order to make the determination of whether the matter is criminal in nature,” reported Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, South East District RCMP District Advisory NCO (Media Relations)
