Ride & Roast Bike Festival invites the community

The Fernie Ride & Roast Bike Festival will bring a day of free public festival programming to Fernie on Saturday, June 27.

The festival is part of Fernie Singletrack 3, taking place June 26–28, alongside the three-day, 500-rider stage race.

While FST3 anchors the weekend with racing across the Elk Valley, the Ride & Roast Bike Festival at the Montane Barn is designed as a community-first event, with a full schedule of free activities open to residents and visitors. Stage 2 racers will arrive from Sparwood on the Elk Valley Trail, with the first riders expected to cross the finish line at 11 a.m.

The Ride & Roast Festival on Saturday, June 27 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) includes:

  • Trailforks E-Bike Rally (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.): A FREE non-competitive, community ride focused on navigation, battery management, and strategy;
  • Kids’ Bike Rodeo (12 – 2 p.m.): FREE programming for ages two to14, including bike decoration, skill development, and a guided trail ride;
  • Coal Creek Heritage Interpretive Ride (2 – 4 p.m.): A FREE guided community ride exploring Fernie’s historic Coal Creek corridor;
  • Pimp Your Townie (4:30 – 5 p.m.):  Shine or dress up your townie and enter the contest;
  • Lamb & Pork Roast-Off (3 – 5 p.m.): Community food event featuring local preparation and tasting.

Additional festival programming running throughout the day includes:

  • Community booths, barn games, bike demos and food trucks
  • Barn yard games and activities
  • DJ programming, beer garden, and food trucks
  • Rider finish line access (11 a.m.– 4 p.m.)

Evening programming extends the public event:

  • 3 – 9 p.m.: DJ, beer garden, and local food night
  • 5:30 p.m. onward: Live music with Wheel House and continued food service.

The weekend begins Thursday, June 25, with an Opening Ceremonies Social (4 – 7 p.m.) at the Montane Barn, open to the community. Friday, June 26 is Stage 1 with riders racing on Fernie Ridge, Montane and Castle trails and with all-day public access to food trucks.

Sunday, June 28 shifts to the Elk Valley Nordic Centre and Fernie Alpine Resort for Stage 3, where spectators can access food trucks, entertainment, beer gardens and Chillville (10 a.m.– 2 p.m.) and attend the awards ceremony at 12 p.m. at the Nordic Centre.

The Ride & Roast Bike Festival is delivered by the Coal Creek Heritage Society, with support from Tourism Fernie, Trailforks and the Ghostrider Adventure Camp. Programming is designed to give the public free, welcoming ways to take part in the weekend, celebrate Fernie, and enjoy our wonderful trails without entering the race.

FST3 is capped at 500 riders and has sold out, drawing participants from across Western Canada and beyond. The Ride & Roast Festival ensures the event delivers equal value to the local community through accessible rides, family programming, food, entertainment and public gathering space.
