Info sought on Highway 3 crash that killed local man

RCMP is seeking possible witnesses to a Highway 3 crash last night that claimed the life of a 50-year-old local man.

On February 20, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP was dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Highway 3, approximately half a kilometre east of the Sparwood weigh scales.

“Upon arrival it was determined that a westbound vehicle with a single occupant left the roadway and collided with a hydro pole. The collision itself was not witnessed,” reported BC RCMP Traffic Services.

The 50-year-old male driver from the East Kootenay area died at the scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by East Kootenay Traffic Services (EKTS) and nothing has been ruled out, however the road surface was described as icy, with blowing snow and temperatures near –15 degrees Celsius.

Anyone with information regarding this collision who has not spoken with police is asked to call EKTS (Cranbrook) at 250-420-4244 and quote file 2019-742.
