Self-fill sandbag stations set up in Hosmer and Fernie
The High Streamflow Advisory issued by the River Forecast Centre has been lifted for the East Kootenay.
As further precipitation is expected in the region throughout the weekend, a self-fill sandbag station is being replenished adjacent to the Elk River Hotel in Hosmer for residents of the area. As of 10 AM tomorrow, there will be fresh sand and bags.
Currently, the City of Fernie has opened a self-fill sandbag station next to the city’s Operations Yard on Railway Avenue. All are welcome to use this station. The sandbag station has sand and bags. For both stations, residents are required to bring their own shovel and gloves.
If you see or are experiencing widescale flooding, please call the 24-hour emergency reporting line at 250-489-9677.

The service is free, and it is for everyone in the East Kootenay – including all municipalities, rural areas, and First Nations.
