Arrest made after dangerous driving incident in Sparwood
Elk Valley RCMP is investigating after a dangerous driving incident in Sparwood last night.
On June 13 at approximately 11:50 p.m., an Elk Valley RCMP officer was on patrol along Highway 43 near Sparwood when he observed a speeding white truck travelling northbound.
The officer turned the patrol car around and observed the vehicle entering into the Sparwood Heights area and then turning onto Ponderosa Drive.
As the speeding vehicle passed Valleyview Drive and rounded the corner heading southbound, the officer attempted a vehicle stop by activating his emergency equipment. As the officer came around the corner, he observed the truck had obviously lost control and ended up on the front lawn of a residence in the 1200 block of Ponderosa Drive, causing light damage to the front of the home.
The driver had already exited the vehicle but was quickly placed under arrest for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The driver had no injuries requiring medical attention.
The officer formed grounds of impaired operation of a motor vehicle in short order and the suspect was taken to Sparwood Detachment where he provided breath samples well over the legal limit.
“Further investigation at the scene noted there were no injuries to any residents of the home involved,” reported S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“The homeowner provided video of the incident from his home security system. The driver was later released on an Appearance notice for provincial court on a later date.”
Elk Valley RCMP is asking anyone with home security to check their cameras for any video of a white Dodge truck with orange roof lights travelling by their residence at approximately 11:45 to 11:55 p.m. and report any findings to police, referring to file 2023-1689. Our investigation is ongoing.
