Investigation ongoing after fatal crash near Sparwood
On Sunday, November 30 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP attended to a fatal collision accident along Highway 3 at Corbin Road near Sparwood.
Two vehicles were involved with one driver deceased on scene and the other driver being airlifted to Alberta via STARS.
Only two individuals are believed to be involved at this time.
BC Ambulance and Sparwood Fire Rescue were on scene and other RCMP and provincial agencies are attending to assist. Police are working to notify the family of the persons involved.
The public can expect the Highway to be closed for several hours without an available detour in consideration of the ongoing investigation. File 2025-3940 refers.
Highway 3 was reopened for about an hour to some alternating traffic after midnight with support from Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting until the BC Coroner’s office was on site to assist the investigation, at which point the highway was closed for a brief period again.
RCMP have been able to notify families of the party involved, one of whom is at the scene with RCMP. The other driver has been airlifted via STARS for further treatment to a hospital in Calgary. There were only two persons involved in the crash, both being the drivers of each vehicle.
Once the BC Coroner’s office investigation is complete and the vehicles removed, Highway 3 will be reopened to regular traffic. Please look for updates via Drive BC.
