Sparwood Skate Trail officially open

District of Sparwood Mayor David Wilks, joined by Sparwood Figure Skating Club members, Jan. 22 announced the opening of the Sparwood Skate Trail.

The skating loop is approximately 400 metres long and is located within Lions Park. The recreation maintenance team is currently working on lighting and have been able to install limited lighting at present. Additional lights will be installed as soon as they arrive.

The skating trail is not like a normal ice rink. Skaters should skate with extra care at all times, watching for debris on the ice surface, uneven surfaces and the edge of the skating surface. Please no speed skating or hockey on the trail. We encourage all users to wear a helmet and skate in control at all times. The skating loop is one direction only.

We would like to remind all users to maintain their physical distance at all times when using the facility. Only skate with others from your household and wear a mask. Please be safe and we hope you enjoy this new skating opportunity!
