Sparwood welcomes new planning and development director

The District of Sparwood is pleased to announce the newest member of the team, Patrick Sorfleet, who will be filling the role of Director of Planning and Development beginning in May.

Patrick is a Registered Professional Planner who brings more than 14 years of planning and development experience.

He joins the team in Sparwood, having previously been Manager of Planning for the neighbouring City of Fernie and the Planning and Development Supervisor with the Town of Canmore.

Patrick has led numerous community engagement based strategic plans, managed many complex development plans, and has spoken at several conferences on topics relevant to planning in mountain communities. His career to date has been spent in former coal mining communities and he is excited to work in a community that has active primary industry.

“We are really happy to have Patrick join the team,” said Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “His expertise, connection to the area and vast knowledge of communities centred around industry will be sure to serve as a significant asset. With various exciting projects underway we know that Patrick will be a dedicated and integral part of the team, playing a key role in leading Sparwood into the future.”

In his free time Patrick enjoys mountain biking and skiing and is looking forward to getting to know the community, residents, and trails in Sparwood.
