You may have heard it through the grapevine, and if so, unfortunately some of what you’ve heard is true: Art Gallery Kimberley, located at “The Laundromat” in The Platzl, will permanently close its doors on September 13.

Irma de Visser, the gallery’s owner, shared the bittersweet news with the community last month, reflecting on a journey that began with conservative expectations and a simple plan to grow a small business into something special.

“From the start, I’ve said I’ll continue until it no longer makes business sense. Unfortunately, that time has come,” said Irma.

“Although I’m sad to see this wonderful opportunity for local artists, the community, and myself end, I’m beyond grateful for the chance to give it a go. It has been the best learning experience and the most heartwarming time meeting so many talented and wonderful human beings. On top of all that, I’ve made several great friends along the way.”

Irma added that while this adventure is ending, her connection to the local arts scene isn’t: “My heart is in the arts, and I’m sure I’ll stay involved in Kimberley’s arts and culture scene in some form after this adventure ends.”

The Laundromat space will become available for rent starting this fall.

In the weeks leading up to closure, Art Gallery Kimberley is inviting the community to celebrate, and take home a piece of, its magic with two special summer sale campaigns available in the gallery at 167 Deer Park Avenue as well as online at artgallerykimberley.com.

August Summer Sale: 25% Off All Originals by Melanie MacVoy; all of Melanie MacVoy’s original paintings in the gallery will be available at a 25% discount. It’s a rare opportunity to bring home a Melanie MacVoy original at a smokin’ (pardon the pun) hot price.

Summer Sculpture Sale: Growing Weekly Discount on All Sculptures by Rob Toller and Barbara Maye. Starting next week, all of Rob Toller’s AND Barbara Maye’s sculptures in the gallery will go on sale with a discount that grows larger each week over the following six weeks, counting down to the gallery’s final day. Every piece in the collection is one-of-a-kind — once it’s gone, it’s gone. The real risk isn’t missing a bigger discount down the road; it’s missing the piece that spoke to you.

Art Gallery Kimberley has been an inspiring home for local artists and art lovers alike, offering the Kimberley community a space to discover, connect with, and collect original artwork.

The gallery will close permanently on September 13. Gift cards will need to be redeemed by Sunday, September 13 by 4  p.m.
