Blooming art around Kimberley July 2

This Sunday, July 2, you can enjoy the beauty of nature and art in six of Kimberley’s gardens by taking the Bloom Where You Are Planted Art & Garden Tour.
Five of the six gardens will open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sixth, in the courtyard at Centre 64, will open from 1 to 4 p.m., providing champagne and strawberries to refresh you at the end of your tour.
Art & Garden Tour passes are available for $20, including the champagne and strawberries, from Centre 64 each day this week between 1 and 5 p.m. and during the First Saturday celebrations in the Platzl from11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 1. The pass includes a map to each of the listed gardens and artists.
They are: The Romanowicz garden at 80 Kimberley Avenue, with artist Margaret Moe; the Douglas garden at 58 Howard Street, with artist Lori Joe: the Kennedy garden at 2111 Norton Avenue, with artist Marianne Rennick; the Paterson garden at 437 Fortier Street with artist Grant Smith; the Robertson garden at 373 Lindsay Street, with artist Helen Robertson; and the courtyard at Centre 64, with artist Jeannie Miller.
This event is a fundraiser for the Kimberley Kaleidoscope 2017 arts & culture festival which takes place August 5 to 12.
The festival kicks off with First Saturday’s East Coast Kitchen Party featuring an Elks BBQ and a local band on the outdoor stage at Centre 64 starting at 5.30 p.m. followed by dancing to the Celtic folk/rock of ‘Cod Gone Wild.’ Admission to this lively party is by donation.
The festival continues on Sunday with an afternoon chamber music recital by the Freya violin/guitar duet from the Slocan Valley. On Monday a four-day plein air painting workshop with Caprice Hogg commences and on Tuesday another of the very popular a DaVINci paint nights takes place at Centre 64.
‘Breakwater,’ the popular classical, Celtic, roots, folk, and jazz fusion band from Nelson returns to Kimberley Kaleidoscope for a concert on Wednesday evening, and Vancouver author Jennifer Manuel will conduct two writing workshops on Thursday, followed by a reading from her novel, ‘The Heaviness of Things That Float,’ at the Kimberley library on Thursday evening.
The annual Arts on the Edge gala takes place, as always, on Friday evening, this year featuring a live auction of paintings from the Art & Garden Tour, music by Kimberley’s young Theory of Waves jazz band and dance by Maggie Gilbert.
The festival concludes Saturday with two events, a children’s festival in the morning with Kiki the Eco Elf performing at the Platzl gazebo, and a closing night highlight performance by Vancouver’s Kasandra Flamenco Ensemble, bringing the music and dance of Spain to the Centre 64 theatre.
