Donated benches damaged, stolen at new park

Cherry Creek Falls Regional Park opened to great fanfare last summer with people arriving from all around the region to take part in the opening ceremony.

Since then, the new regional park with greatly enhanced safety and recreation infrastructure has been used by people in a responsible and respectful manner, the Meadowbrook Community Association (MCA) reported.

However, in late September, some thieves stole the seat from one of the beautiful stone benches and left the seat from the other on the ground, the MCA noted.

“The Hammond family generously donated these benches to enhance the experience of all who visit the falls. The plaque recognizing the donation prominently displayed on each bench did not deter the thieves. Their selfish act is despicable. We can only hope they are identified and brought to justice,” the MCA stated in a note to members.

The RCMP continues to investigate and is soliciting assistance from the public. If you have any information you think might be helpful please contact the Kimberley RCMP Detachment at 250-427-4811 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
