Fruit tree pruning clinics in Kimberley

East Kootenay locals are familiar with the storeys high, wildly overgrown apple and crabapples trees that shade many of our yards.

With about 1,600 fruit trees and 4,200 dwellings in Kimberley, there is a tree for every third household and then some. Fruit trees are an incredible asset to your family’s food security, and a light winter pruning can increase yield, simplify harvesting and greatly improve the health of your tree.

To offer fruit tree owners the knowledge they need to care for their fruit trees, Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook is hosting upcoming Fruit Tree Pruning Clinics in Kimberley, part of the Apple Capture Project.

Dave Couse, Kimberley local and ex- Ornamental and Edible Arborist, will demonstrate the basics of pruning in this two-hour workshop. Participants can expect to learn the basics of tree anatomy, the ground rules for stress-free pruning during dormancy, techniques for taming unruly mature trees and ongoing pruning for tree maintenance.

Both workshops will take place on Sunday, November 5 at backyard locations (to be determined) in Kimberley.

There are just a few spots remaining in our morning and afternoon clinics!  Please follow the registration link on the Wildsight web events listing to register online, the cost per person is $20.
