Kimberley welcomes new CFO

In the last couple of years, there has been a running joke among Regional District of East Kootenay board directors that the City of Kimberley is a feeder of talent to regional government staff.

That trend continued June 10 when the RDEK announced that Kimberley chief financial officer (CFO) Holly Ronquist was replacing Shawn Tomlin’s as CFO, as Tomlin begins work as RDEK chief administrative officer (CAO).

Well, Kimberley is now hiring talent from other nearby bailiwicks – announcing today that City of Fernie CAO Jim Hendricks has been hired as the city’s new CFO.

Hendricks brings 16 years of experience from the City of Fernie, where he was CAO for the past 3.5 years. Prior to his appointment as CAO, he held the position of Director of Financial and Computer Services for nine years and Deputy Treasurer for two years, also with the City of Fernie.

Prior to his career in local government administration, Hendricks worked as an accountant in the private sector spending three years in the mining sector and nine years in the steel industry.

“The City of Kimberley is extremely fortunate to add someone with 28 years’ of financial experience to our team at City Hall. Jim’s leadership will be an asset to the city, and will be key in assisting council in meeting their goals for financial sustainability,” stated CAO Scott Sommerville.

“My family has vacationed in Kimberley a few times and we’ve always found it to have a great feel. I’m looking forward to becoming part of the community and working with Scott and his team to help realize council’s vision for the future of the city,” Hendricks said.

Hendricks begins his position at City Hall on Monday, July 18, at which time he can be reached at 427-9650 or at [email protected]

The City of Fernie is now looking for a new CAO.
