Notes from City Hall

Frozen Water Services

A combination of recent cold weather, less snow cover than previous years for ground insulation and rapidly warming temperatures is resulting in utility pipes freezing at numerous locations throughout the City of Kimberley.

At this time many homes in Kimberley are experiencing frozen pipes and unfortunately this has resulted in a backlog of homes waiting for thaws. The city asks that those on the waitlist please be patient as crews work their way through the list to your home.

To help prevent pipes from freezing it is recommended that residents keep a tap running constantly with a stream of water measuring AT LEAST the width of a pencil or more, in a bathtub or sink. For more information about how to prevent frozen water and sewer service lines, please visit http://bit.ly/2HjgCjs.

Shower use for Affected Residents

For all Kimberley residents affected by frozen water services, the city would like to offer the use of the shower facilities at the Kimberley Aquatic Centre free of charge.

The showers are available for use during normal operating hours of 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday.

For any questions not relating to pool hours, please call the Operations Desk at 250-427-9660. For questions related to pool hours, please contact the Aquatic Centre at 250-427-2983 or visit the city’s website.

Smoke Alarms

The City of Kimberley Fire Department would like to remind you to check the batteries in your smoke alarms.

The sad reality is that on average, fire kills eight Canadians every week. Residential property fires account for 40% of all fires and a staggering 73% of all fire deaths – mostly caused by human carelessness. Keep your family safe and check your smoke alarm battery regularly.

If you are a senior or if you know of a senior in need, for no charge the Kimberley Fire Department will evaluate the current smoke alarms within the home. If during the inspection there is a need, we will change batteries, relocate, or provide you with a new or additional smoke alarm. If you have concerns or require any assistance please contact the CKFD weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 250-427-4114 or email [email protected] to request an inspection.
