Wildfire Fuels Management Projects Underway

The City of Kimberley Wildfire Fuels Management program currently has six projects underway in the Nature Park, Nordic Park and Forest Crowne areas. Crews are reducing tree density, chipping, and burning piles in these areas so please pay attention to any signage and notices that may be posted. Smoke will be visible for the next couple of months. If you have any questions, please contact the Fire Department, Monday – Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 250-427-4114 or email at [email protected]

2019-2023 Financial Plan Public Consultation

City Council would like to invite the public’s participation regarding the proposed 2019-2023 Financial Plan. Information on the proposed 2019-2023 Financial Plan will be presented in Council Chambers on Monday, April 15, at 7 p.m., at which time members of the public will be invited to provide input and ask questions related to the plan. For those wishing to provide input but are unable to attend the meeting, written submissions may be dropped off at City Hall or emailed to [email protected]. For more information, please visit the latest news section of the city’s website at www.kimberley.ca.

Fire Hydrant Maintenance

The city is currently performing routine fire hydrant maintenance that will be underway over the next several weeks. During this process, fire hydrants will be tested for adequate flow. Residents may notice discolouration in the water, and in the event that cloudy water is experienced, turn an outside tap on (preferred) or the cold-water tap in a bathtub, run water until the water clears. THIS DISCOLOURATION IS NOT A PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN. For further information or if you have any questions, please contact the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected].

Dog Etiquette

Spring has sprung! Remember to pick up your dog’s excrement when walking your dog, and please use the bags provided and place it in the receptacles. If you notice that the bag holder is empty contact the Animal Control Officer at 250-427-6460. Please be conscientious of everyone who uses the trails, as no one likes to step in dog doo! Let’s all pitch in to keep our trails and streets clean and clear.

The Animal Control Officer would like to remind dog owners that your dog must be on leash at all times within the City of Kimberley, except for when you are using the designated off leash areas. Non-compliance with section 20 of the Animal Control Bylaw No. 2544, 2016 may result in a fine of $75 for a first offence and $150 for each subsequent offence.

The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces to exercise your furry friends. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your dog still applies in these three off-leash areas.

Be Bear Smart

There have been multiple bear sightings around the city and on the Rails-to-Trails. Please remember that bears are coming out of hibernation and are in search of food. The biggest attractant for bears in our community is garbage. Properly secure your garbage, and keep it indoors until pick-up or until you can take it to the transfer station. Everyone likes the smell of a barbecue, bears included! Please remember to properly clean your BBQ after using it.

Building Permits & Inspections

Planning a renovation or addition to your home? Dreaming of a new deck or garage? Remember to first obtain a Building Permit before starting your project. The permit and inspection process helps to ensure compliance with health, safety and zoning requirements. Building Permit application forms can be picked up at City Hall or the website. The Building Official can help you navigate the application process and discuss the relevant building code and other municipal requirements. If you have questions about the permit and inspection process, please contact the Building Official at 250-427-9655 or [email protected].
