On Saturday, May 20 at 5:45 p.m. the Kimberley Fire Department was notified of and attended a mud slide behind the Overwaitea Foods building at 1545 Warren Avenue.

The fire department ordered the evacuation of the store along with one home nearby until a geotechnical engineer could be consulted.  A geotechnical engineer evaluated the hill side and determined that that the bank was safe under the current conditions. Overwaitea was re-opened the next morning while an excavator was working to remove the material, reported Kimberley Fire Chief Rick Prasad.
