Kimberley RCMP was busy Saturday night and early Sunday morning, removing three impaired drivers from the road in less than eight hours.

The first impaired occurred on St. Mary Lake Road after a collision. A 38-year-old woman crashed her vehicle just after 7 p.m. on May 27. Police attended and noticed strong signs of alcohol consumption; the breath demand was read and she provided two breath samples. Both registered as a ‘fail’ and she is now prohibited from driving for 90 days and her vehicle has been impounded for 30 days. In addition she received violation tickets for No Insurance and Fail to License Vehicle.

While attending the collision and waiting for a tow truck, a second officer conducted traffic control. A vehicle approached the scene and the driver stopped prior to reaching it. The driver got out and put something in the back, got back in the vehicle and drove forward. The officer was suspicious and checked the driver. He noticed signs of alcohol consumption and read the breath demand. Both samples provided were a ‘fail.’ The driver is now prohibited for 90 days and her vehicle has been impounded for 30 days.

Just after 2 a.m., May 28, an officer watched a vehicle stop for a green light. He followed the vehicle for a few blocks and noticed unusual driving behaviour. He stopped the vehicle, noticed the driver showed signs of alcohol consumption and requested a breath demand. The driver supplied two breath samples, reading both ‘fail’ and he is now prohibited from driving for 90-days and his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

In addition, on Friday, May 26 a traffic blitz was conducted in cooperation with East Kootenay Traffic Services. Twelve violation tickets and five warnings were issued for a number of offences but the most prominent being Fail to Wear Seat Belt and Use Electronic Device.
