Shots fired investigation locks down central ?aq’am

A shots fired investigation by the RCMP resulted in central ?aq’am being locked down this morning (Feb. 26).

?aqam director of operations Michelle Shortridge reports that a lockdown procedure was initiated at 10:30 a.m. at the ?aq’am Administration Complex, ?aqamnik Elementary School, ?aqamnik Daycare and ?aq’am Trading after RCMP advised it was investigating a report of shots fired in the area.

The lockdown was initiated “to ensure the safety of all students, children, staff and visitors in the area while the RCMP conducted their search and investigation,” Shortridge explained.

The lockdown was lifted at 11:10 a.m. without incident.

“The organization acknowledges the quick work of the RCMP, other first responders and staff who worked quickly to ensure the safety of the community during this incident,” Shortridge concluded.
