Trust funds 10 scholarships to writing workshops

The Columbia Basin Trust will be sponsoring 10 half-tuition scholarships to the three-day St. Eugene Writing Workshops running May 10-12, at St. Eugene Resort.

The St. Eugene Writing Workshops are modelled after MFA workshops and offer writers the opportunity to participate in a critical examination of their writing in a non-academic environment. The intensive writing workshops are led by award winning authors. These are the only workshops of this sort in B.C.

The CBT scholarships will be divided between the four three–day workshops—Fiction/Non-fiction (Shelley Leedahl), Playwriting (Anosh Irani), Poetry (Anna Marie Sewell) and Finding Your Voice (Keith Liggett) on a space available basis. Space in each workshop is limited, so if a participant has already registered, the workshops will refund the amount of the scholarship.

Registration for the Workshops opened on March 8.

Applications for CBT the scholarships will be handled by the workshop staff. The application can be by email or hard copy. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or legal resident and live in the Columbia Basin. Other application requirements are on the web site.

The CBT scholarships are not the only scholarships to the Workshops. Other scholarships to the Workshops are provided by Teck Coal (four full scholarships for Ktunaxa Nation members) by the Liggett family and by St. Eugene Resort. For more information visit the St. Eugene Writing Workshop site and go to the Scholarship section.

Additional workshops offered– a six-day Fiction/Non-fiction session (TBA), a similar, but shorter Manuscript Review (Sioux Browning) and a two-day Youth Session (Danielle Gibson).

The St. Eugene Writing Workshops are in their second year at the resort. While the workshops are by registration only, the week will offer panel discussions, public readings and a number of other literary events free to the public.
