Wycliffe Regional Park is to become a permanent home for an 18-hole disc golf course thanks to a $7,000 Recreation Infrastructure Grant from Columbia Basin Trust.

The Elk Valley Disc Golf Association will be overseeing the establishment of the permanent course.

“This new, well-designed course will help grow the sport locally and provide the opportunity to host provincial events in the Cranbrook area,” said Elk Valley Disc Golf Association board member Fraser Bowden. “It will provide seasoned players opportunities to improve their games, attract new players to the sport and create a venue to host organized tournaments and league play.”

Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in North America: healthy, easy to learn, suitable for all ages and skill levels and inexpensive.

In total, the Trust announced March 16 it is providing $1.8 million for 38 projects Columbia Basin-wide to support a variety of groups and organizations in building infrastructure that encourages active lifestyles.

Wycliffe Regional Park, operated by the Regional District of East Kootenay, is located between Cranbrook and Kimberley, off Perry Creek Road.
