Panorama hosting IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships

Mac Marcoux, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. is on fire this season, coming off the IPC Alpine World Cup finals in St. Moritz, Switzerland with an Overall Crystal Globe last week, and landing the coveted title of Overall World Cup Athlete.

An injured shoulder and poor snow conditions didn’t stop Rossland’s Kimberly Joines from capturing a slalom (sitting) silver medal at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup in La Molina, Spain last month. B.C.’s Matt Hallatt, Para-alpine’s longest standing member is looking to finishing off his season on the podium.

The Canadian team’s results at the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, to be held February 28 – March 10 at Panorama Mountain Resort is anyone’s guess, but it’s guaranteed to be a nail biter. Any one of our Canadian athletes is poised to podium; it will be a race series to watch with a genuine international flair.

The Canadian Para-Alpine Team is focused on a strong showing with potential for several podiums at the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships. Canada has a ski team full of strength, focus and past success. Canadian athletes to watch are: Matt Hallat, Kimberly Joines, Mac Marcoux, Braydon Luscombe, Kurt Oatway and Kirk Schornstein.

“World Champs will be awesome,” said Marcoux. “Coming off of my World Cup season, I am confident in my skiing. Now I have to keep focused, continue to build on this to meet the goals and expectations we have set for World Champs. I can’t wait!”

This is the first time an IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships will be held in North America, athletes, coaches, families, spectators and international media will soon descend on the quaint mountain resort. The upcoming Championships will be the biggest gathering of skiers since Sochi 2014 and is set to feature 120 athletes from 25 countries, including some of the biggest names in para-sport. Opening ceremonies will be held Saturday, February 28 and the event concludes Tuesday, March 10.
