Radium reports visitor stats on the rise

Located just past the junction of Highways 93 and 95 at 7556 Main Street East, the Radium Hot Springs Visitor Information Centre proudly reports they are moving up in the world.

Tourism BC Visitor Centre Statistics show the Information Centre jumped from 11th in the province in 2011 to number seven in 2012.

With 133 Visitor Information Centres in British Columbia, moving into the top 10 busiest centres is no small feat.

Mayor Dee Conklin

Reports show 53,113 visitors entered the centre in 2012. “We are excited to see the rise in numbers,” states Village of Radium Hot Springs Mayor Dee Conklin. ”Our VIC services the entire Columbia Valley, from Radium to Fairmont Hot Springs and is therefore an integral commodity for our combined communities.”

Open 362 days a year, closed only on Christmas, Boxing and New Year’s Days, the centre focuses on first class visitor experience and providing valley-wide information to travelers.

“The staff make it what it is, “says Manager Kent Kebe. “And the opportunity to work closely with Parks Canada attributes to the ability to run this centre as we do.”

Housed in the Parks Canada building the VIC enjoys a reciprocal partnership with Parks; as Radium is located just south of Kootenay National Park. The Radium Hot Springs Visitor Information Centre aims to extend their hours for the summer 2013 season to include operating from 9 am to 9 pm on Friday nights in conjunction with the Village’s steadily expanding Music and Market on Main event held each weekend from May to September.

“The services provided here currently are extremely valuable to visitors, as is the education provided by Parks Canada during their operating season. We hope the funding for Visitor Services remains top priority in the face of elections this coming year.” says Mayor Conklin.

Radium Hot Springs is one of 14 Resort Municipalities in British Columbia and thrives on tourism for its main industry.
