District hires new CAO from within

The District of Elkford didn’t have to look far to find a replacement chief administrative officer (CAO) for the departing Corien Speaker.

Mayor Dean McKerracher and district council June 13 announced that Curtis Helgesen, Director of Financial Services and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, has been promoted to the position of CAO effective June 29.
Helgesen, who has been with the district since 2006, has more than 17 years of combined experience in both the public and private sector.
“We are very confident that Mr. Helgesen’s wealth of experience and knowledge make him the ideal candidate for this position, and his leadership will help to continue to move our community forward into a progressive future,” said McKerracher.
Speaker recently announced her resignation after accepting the CAO position with the District of Squamish.
