Highway 3 open again after freezing rain closure
UPDATE: The highway is now open.
Highway 3 is still closed between the Highway 93 Junction and the B.C./Alberta Border due to the extreme slippery conditions created by last night’s freezing rain.

A warming centre has been established at the Fernie Community Centre at 901 6 Avenue for travellers affected by the road closure.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is continuing to monitor the situation as Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s crews continue to address these conditions and the ice build-up on the highway.
The expected opening is about 9 a.m. Check DriveBC for updates.
Conditions are treacherous across much of the East Kootenay and drivers are urged to stay off the roads / highways unless travel is necessary.
