Intersection changing to two-way stop
The intersection of 13th Street South near Kootenay Orchards School and Victoria Avenue going to Gold Creek will be changed to a two-way stop this week.
BA Blacktop will also begin work installing a traffic island to help improve the traffic flow of the intersection.
It is important that the public is aware of this change and the city asks that drivers please respect the change to the traffic control. Vehicle traffic will still be able to move through, however there may be short interruptions to traffic flow during the construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
The two-way stop and the traffic island are designed to mitigate safety concerns around the large number of vehicle near misses and collisions, which are regular occurrences at this intersection. This is an important traffic safety measure being put in place in order to reduce the number of these instances.
This is a unique intersection in Cranbrook as part of the intersection is the responsibility of the city, while the other part is outside the city boundary and is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI).
Please respect and obey all signage and direction of any flaggers on site during the construction work. It is so important for drivers to be aware of their presence. Please slow down to give these personnel the s pace they need to be safe. The City of Cranbrook remains committed not only to the safety of the public but to the safety of our staff. Thank you for remembering their safety as well as your own as you drive through construction zones.
The city appreciates the patience and understanding of the public as this road work is completed.
