Traffic Tip of the Week
Cranbrook RCMP has instituted a new municipal traffic position and will be releasing traffic tips for the public on a weekly basis.
This week’s tip: Stopping at Intersections
186 – Except when a peace officer directs otherwise, if there is a stop sign at an intersection, a driver of a vehicle must stop…
(a) at the marked stop line, if any;
(b) before entering the marked crosswalk on the near side of the intersection; or
(c) when there is neither a marked crosswalk nor a stop line, before entering the intersection, at the point nearest the intersecting highway from which the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting highway.
“A rolling stop is not a legal stop. You must come to a complete stop and proceed when safe to do so. The minimum penalty is $167 and three points on your driving record,” advises Cpl. RP Hrehirchuk.
Cranbrook RCMP encourages drivers to obey all signs to promote safe driving habits. By doing this, members of the public will help ensure the safety of everyone, reduce driving related injuries and accidents and avoid costly insurance claims.
