Release the power of organic scraps
Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook is hosting Nadine Rake as she presents The Power of Organic Scraps workshop on Thursday, October 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Cranbrook’s Public Produce Garden.
Rake states, “fall is here, and now is a great time to start a home compost system. Composting at home can reduce your household garbage by half, and turn organic waste into compost gold; let’s face it, it’s not just the kids that love digging in soil!”
At the workshop participants will master how to set up a bin, work and maintain the pile, how to use compost soil along with troubleshooting tips, and the misconceptions surrounding bioplastics.
Tickets are sold online at Wildsight.ca and are $12 for Wildsight members and $15 for non-members.
Rake is author of the Zero Journey Blog where she points out, “Zero-Wasting is not only a great movement and our responsibility to our planet,” but it can be a fun, creative hobby that draws on a person’s resourcefulness.”
She states, “I also dig compost. Get it? I dig it.”
On the Zero Journey blog you can find her talking about her own journey to zero waste and how it all started over five years ago. Rake is a German living in Canada, an educator in the classroom, and an environmental advocate with Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook.
She is the former coordinator for Cranbrook Composts and the Clean Bin Project, which was a challenge to residents in the local area to reduce their waste. Inspired by the documentary The Clean Bin Project filmed in 2010 in Vancouver, Rake is passionate about living a conscious, waste free life and loves sharing her knowledge that she has gained through the process with those around her.
Join her and the Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook team to learn first-hand how you can make a difference through composting. Rake beams “bring your smile, a set of working hands, and dig in!”
