Art Station hosting special double exhibit
The Arts Station in Fernie is preparing for its next show, a special double exhibit, running from the opening reception on Thursday, August 27 (at 7 p.m.) until Tuesday, Sept. 27.
The show will feature two Fernie artists.
Leanne Stothert – Summer (pictured above)
Having resided in Fernie for over a decade now, Leanne Stothert is in the unique position to have created summer memories of both the mountains that surround her as well as the Pacific West Coast that she grew up on. This group of works is about summer and memory. The memories that all of us have of the sun, bright and cheerful, and the activities that we all partook of in childhood and today. The birth of her first child prompted Leanne back to painting as she wanted to give her a personal and unique memento of her very first years. We are all lucky for this child as we are all fortunate enough now to see the beautiful works of this artist and mother.
Camilla Merritt – Abstract Trails
Relocating to Fernie from England eight years ago has allowed Camilla to further examine mans’ fragile relationship with nature and these works are representative of how she sees our wilderness here; rugged, wild, personal, awesome and yet still impacted by humans, sometimes in a good way other times less so. It is the impression rather than the actual view that Merritt has captured in these paintings. This elusive abstraction offers the freedom that she is seeking but has also proved to be daunting in its loosening of the reins of traditional landscape painting. Camilla invites everyone to take this journey with her and see how far and to where these abstract trails ultimately will lead. Courtney Baker/Fernie Arts Station
