Kimberley stars in Hans of Doom

What happens to a sleepy little resort town, when the cherished local mascot… goes mad – Hans of Doom!

Hans of Doom, a locally-made film for Telus’ Storyhive is described as: A small town thriller; a team of detectives hunt for a deranged, sadistic killer who is kidnapping and torturing the town’s restaurant owners.

“What started as a workroom horror movie convo and quickly turned into a script for our town’s mascot to show his dark side. Our talented team of writers, designers, cinematographers and directors are stands-by to turn Hans of Doom into a digital short,” relates the creative team.

The gripping, bone-chilling epic stars Darren Shaban, Mitch Mills, Tylene Turner, Lucas Roach, Pamela Curry, Pierre Garsonnin, Mike ‘Hogie’ Hoegland, Gem Moe, Chris Robison, Pollen Kemp, Hollis Tompkins and a superbly nuanced performance by Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander Sgt. Chris Newel.

Featuring plenty of Kimberley area landmarks along with an important appearance by the Bull River Inn – in a town not far away – the film is directed by Courtney Forester and produced by Jason Toner.

The film-makers describe their swath of art as: “Hans of Doom is a campy, little ‘70s-style horror film that pokes fun at small resort town living here in B.C.”

Telus’ Storyhive funds productions, supports filmmakers with mentorship and support from the National Screen Institute, having brought hundreds of films to life online and around the world.

Hans of Doom was one of 47 finalists chosen for the Storyhive Digital Shorts edition. Each finalist receives a $10,000 production grant, training and mentoring from seasoned NSI team members, and distribution on TELUS Optik TV On Demand.

A slightly longer version of the film will air on Telus Optik TV.
