Notes from City Hall
Bylaw Reminders
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer would like to remind residents that angle parking is not permitted in the City of Kimberley, unless otherwise posted. Angle parking impedes snow plowing and narrows the traveled portion of the street, which obstructs the safe passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Animal Control Officer would like to remind dog owners that your dog must be on leash at all times within the City of Kimberley, except for when they you using the designated off leash areas. Non-compliance with section 20 of the Animal Control Bylaw 2544, 2016 may result in a fine of $75 for a first offence and $150 for each subsequent offence. The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces to exercise your furry friends. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your dog still applies in these three off-leash areas. View the Animal Control Bylaw.
Be Bear Smart
Bears are in search of food before going into hibernation. Some simple steps to follow to help avoid a run-in with bears are:
- Store garbage in a secure building until pickup. Do not put it out for collection before 5 a.m. on the day of collection.
- Take bird feeders inside and keep the ground clear of spilled birdseed.
- Keep pets and pet food indoors, if pets are fed outside ensure the food is all cleaned up.
- Ensure that your BBQ is completely cleaned after use, making sure to clean the grease trap thoroughly.
Using common sense all year round helps limit human-bear conflict, but being extra cautious right now will aid in saving a bear’s life and help to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. Remember, a fed bear is a dead bear! For more information on living with wildlife please visit our website. To report wildlife-human interaction where public safety is an immediate risk, please call the Conservation Officer Service RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
