Structure fire east of Kimberley closes highway

Forestry officials and RCMP are on the scene of a structure fire just outside of Kimberley city limits that has prompted the closure of Highway 95A and the precautionary evacuation of two neighbouring homes.

The fire has fully engulfed a home and spread into trees on the property. A helicopter and three forestry crews are on scene now trying to contain the flames. Power has been cut off to the area and RCMP are on scene.

Highway 95A is expected to be closed for at least two hours and there is no indication when power may be restored.

The home, which is located approximately 1 kilometre east of Kimberley, is located outside a fire protection zone.

There are no reports of injuries at this time and the RDEK’s Central Emergency Program is responding to provide Emergency Social Services support if required.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
