Performing August 24 – Summer Sounds
The Summer Sounds / Dancing in the Park programs are coordinated and run by the Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society volunteers. These community events held at Rotary Park every Saturday of July & August, feature live regional performing artists and the occasional touring artist. There’s no admission and everyone is welcome!
6 p.m. Four Deer Run – Four Deer Run was the brainchild of Mike “Swampy Mcduff” Guarnery. When asked about the origins of the band he says he “just wanted to be in a band.” Partnering with Curtis Kaldestad and Brian Bova they had a good run with local band Sketch! until splitting the take six ways proved too difficult and they went their separate ways with $47.50 apiece. After some time away for mourning and soul searching, the remaining members thought to audition hundreds of local musicians for the lead guitar gig with the new band. That never happened. Local singer-song writer Kevin Martin came over to jam one night and never left.
Performing everything from the Rolling Stones to Dolly Parton, Four Deer Run takes the best from the numerous generations of rock music. The Who, James Brown, CSNY and CCR are some of the artists 4DR cover from the early days of Classic rock. Right on through the decades to Green Day, Night Sweats, The Hip and the Glorious Sons, 4DR has something for all those folks who like that good ole rock and/or roll. Four Deer Run is all about having fun and dancing the night away!
7 p.m. Suenos Tango – Since 2008 Dennis and Sharlene Parker have worked quietly to promote the Tango in Cranbrook by organizing workshops and offering Argentine tango dance instruction at beginner and intermediate levels. “If you can walk, you can Tango. We’ll teach you how to walk.” This Argentine Tango dance presentation is both interactive and beautiful to observe. Joined by Randy and Kim of Cranbrook Dance Connection, there will be one tango dance demonstration to recorded music and one Tango dance demonstration to live Tango Music provided by the Gabriel Palachi Trio (8 p.m.). Assisted by a few local students, a short (15 minute) fun beginner Argentine Tango lesson will be offered for those attending. Try Tango!
