Notes from City Hall

Council Schedule

The next Regular Meeting of City of Kimberley council will be held Monday, January 27 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers upstairs at City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.

Committee Volunteer Opportunity, Board of Variance

The City of Kimberley invites applications from community members interested in becoming a member of the Board of Variance. The Board is responsible for reviewing and making decisions on requests to vary, or relax, development regulations such as building size and siting requirements. One three-year term position is available. Please submit an expression of interest highlighting your relevant qualifications and experience to the Manager of Planning at [email protected] or to City Hall at 340 Spokane Street, Kimberley, BC V1A 2E8. Deadline for submissions is 4 p.m. February 4. It is anticipated that the Board member selection will be confirmed by City Council at the February 10 meeting. For more information.

Free Ski Shuttle

Looking for a little après-ski adventure? Catch a ride to downtown to explore the many dining and shopping opportunities. The Peak to Platzl Downtown Shuttle is a free transportation service between the Kimberley Alpine Resort base area, on-mountain accommodations and the downtown shops, pubs and restaurants. The shuttle operates daily (except statutory holidays) until closing of the ski season. Find the full schedule here.

Outdoor Rinks

City staff have been working hard to get the Lois Creek Outdoor Rink at Townsite (pictured above) up and running. Crews spent the past couple of days smoothing and flooding the ice and it is now safe for users. We will continue to monitor the ice as temperatures warm up this week. Please respect all signage. The Swan Avenue and DeWolfe Avenue rinks are also open for use and are being managed by neighbourhood volunteers. For more information about the outdoor rinks, please visit our website.

Bylaw Reminders

Angle parking is not permitted in the City of Kimberley, unless otherwise posted. Angle parking impedes snow plowing and narrows the traveled portion of the street, which obstructs the safe passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and firetrucks. Thank you for your cooperation.

Designated off-leash spaces

Please remember that your dog must be on leash at all times within the City of Kimberley, except for when you are using the designated off leash areas. Non-compliance may result in a fine. The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces to exercise your furry friends. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your dog still applies in these three off-leash areas.  View the Animal Control Bylaw.

Aquatic Centre Non-Instructional Day Camp

On Monday, February 10, bring your kids to the Aquatic Centre for a day of fun!  This includes indoor and outdoor adventures, swimming, crafts and games! For children five to 11 years of age from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cost is $47 per day or $55 per day for children under seven, or for swimmers that require supervision. For registration and details call 250.427.2983 or visit www.kimberley.ca and follow the link to Aquatic Centre.
