Liberal Party candidate for Kootenay-Columbia Robin Goldsbury is organizing a drive-by Parade of Thanks for frontline health care workers in Cranbrook on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7.  Participants are asked to rally in their vehicles at the Community Connections parking lot – the Old Bingo Hall off 2^nd Street.

“Decorate your car. Make signs. Let’s show our local heroes how grateful we are!” Goldsbury invites.

“We are so proud and extremely grateful for our frontline care providers and all the compassionate workers and support staff during this pandemic,” she added.

The idea for a parade started a few weeks ago when local campaign organizers for the Liberal candidate decided against a Team Robin office-opening reception due to COVID-19.

“We wanted to demonstrate that politics can be positive, unified and inclusive.  Thanking those who work so hard to keep us safe seemed a wonderful way to do it,” said Balfour resident Goldsbury.

She expressed sadness that recent protests throughout Kootenay-Columbia have intensified divisions, often between friends and families.

“I understand people are frustrated.  I think we all just want to get back to normal and to feel safe,” she said, adding other political candidates from the other parties have been invited to participate.

For those in the Kootenay-Columbia who want to join but are too far away or the timing is not great, Goldsbury suggests:

• Write a card of thanks and send to your local front-line workers;
• Take the kids and with side-walk chalk to write messages of thanks in parking lots and sidewalks where workers will see them;
• Make a poster and deliver it;
• Send a donation to your local healthcare foundation in honour of these heroes;
• Send a gift card for treats to the staff room;
• Get creative! There are so many ways we can keep sharing the caring.
