After a six-year hiatus, Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT) is thrilled to announce the return of The Abbott Awards, a fun and free community celebration giving performers, volunteers, patrons and supporters the opportunity to come together and celebrate another successful season of community theatre.

Taking place at the Key City Theatre on Sunday, August 23, the evening will begin with a cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the Abbott Awards Ceremony from 7 to 9:15 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to dress up for the occasion and enjoy a memorable evening celebrating the people who bring local theatre to life. Admission is free, and a cash bar will be available.

Named in honour of Bud Abbott, one of the founders of Cranbrook Community Theatre, the evening will feature:

• A sneak peek at Cranbrook Community Theatre’s upcoming season.
• A silent auction fundraiser, with all proceeds going directly back into Cranbrook Community.
• Theatre to support future productions, facility improvements, and community programming.

The presentation of awards affectionately known as “The Buddies” Award recipients are selected by members of Cranbrook Community Theatre in categories including:

• Favourite Performance in a Leading Male Role
• Favourite Performance in a Leading Female Role
• Favourite Performance in a Supporting Male Role
• Favourite Performance in a Supporting Female Role
• Favourite Set Design
• Favourite Costume Design
• Favourite Props
• Favourite Technical Achievement
• Favourite Poster Design
• Favourite Newcomer
• Favourite Director
• Favourite Production

In addition, the Cranbrook Community Theatre Board of Directors will present the Volunteer of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing the dedicated volunteers whose passion, commitment, and countless hours behind the scenes help ensure community theatre continues to thrive in Cranbrook.

“The Abbott Awards are about celebrating everyone who contributes to community theatre, both onstage and offstage,” said CCT Production Manager Trevor Lundy, who will also return as MC for this event, “From performers and directors to builders, technicians, volunteers, and supporters, this evening recognizes the tremendous talent and dedication that make live theatre possible in our region. The silent auction also provides attendees with an opportunity to help support the future of community theatre in Cranbrook.”

The Abbott Awards are open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend.
