Mainroad reports possibility of mixed precipitation

A weather event is anticipated to impact the East Kootenay over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s meteorological service is predicting mixed precipitation throughout the service area starting on Sunday. Precipitation will continue through to Monday afternoon.

“Motorists may notice our units throughout the morning and into the evening proactively treating major routes with anti-icing chemicals. Our crews will continue applying salt and/or winter abrasive, and performing snow removal operations where necessary,” Mainroad said in a weather alert.

“Motorists should use caution, drive to the conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather. A reminder that winter tires or chains are required on most routes in British Columbia from October 1 to April 30. For select highways not located through mountain passes and/or high snowfall areas, tire and chain requirements end March 31. These routes are marked with regulatory signs posted on highways throughout the province.”
