Rainfall warning issued for the Elk Valley

Environment Canada this morning issued a rainfall warning in effect for the Elk Valley as heavy rain continues.

An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall is expected from now until this evening throughout the Elk Valley. Heavier rainfall amounts are anticipated near Morrissey and Fernie, Environment Canada reported.

“An atmospheric river continues to bring heavy rain with 20 to 40 mm of additional rainfall expected by this evening. The rain will transition to snow this evening as cooler air enters the region and freezing levels to drop.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Rapidly rising rivers and creeks can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings, and people. Don’t approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts,” Environment Canada stated.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
