Woody Maguire seeks seat on Kimberley council

By Woody Maguire

I am running for council because I care deeply about our community. I care about arts and cultural opportunities, I care about the local economy, I care about the health and wellness of our citizens.

I envision a town with a vibrant culture and a healthy lifestyle. As a councillor I will listen to and consider the merit of differing perspectives and make informed decisions that best serve the larger community.

I aim to keep taxes low while still maintaining the level of service our community has come to expect. The looming wastewater treatment plant replacement is top of mind as well as issues around affordable housing, wildfire mitigation, facility maintenance, sustainability, recreational opportunities and the downtown revitalization.

I will remain open and take a non-partisan, fact-based approach to these and other issues facing council.

I have a Bachelor’s of Engineering from the University of Guelph and a wealth of experience managing municipal infrastructure projects. I was employed in the engineering department at the City of Kimberley for eight years before switching gears and pursuing my own business.

I am an actively engaged citizen and can often be found volunteering to organize and set-up local events.  I also have over a decade of experience sitting on non-profit boards and am currently the President of the Wildsight Kimberley and Cranbrook board where I oversee the direction of Wildsight and chair our monthly board meetings.

I care deeply for this community and would be honoured by the opportunity to serve the people of Kimberley as a councillor for the next four years.
