Evacuation order downsized and alert rescinded
As crews continue to make progress on the Bruce Mountain (Horsethief Creek) Wildfire, effective 10 a.m. July 30 the Evacuation Alert for 1,041 dwellings that was issued July 24 in the vicinity of the wildfire has been rescinded.
Twenty-six dwellings that were previously under an Evacuation Order issued July 24 for the Horsethief Creek and Bear Mountain region have been downgraded to Evacuation Alert while one dwelling remains on Evacuation Order.
Cooperative weather over the past few days has resulted in a reduction of fire activity and allowed BC Wildfire crews to make good progress; however, it continues to be an active fire.
“It is important for people within the Evacuation Alert area to remember that they should stay prepared and be ready to leave on a moment’s notice should conditions change and an order needs to be re-issued,” said Regional Emergency Operations Centre Director Christina Carbrey.
Areas that are no longer on Evacuation Alert include Panorama, Mt. Forster, Lillian Lake Recreation Site and Westside Road area between Invermere and Radium.
A map of the new Order and Alert areas is available on www.rdek.bc.ca.
The fire is mapped to be 1,020 hectares in size. BC Wildfire crews continue to use direct, parallel and indirect fire suppression methods at key areas of the fire’s perimeter to establish control and contingency lines.
The latest updates on the fire can be found on the Fires of Note page on the BC Wildfire webpage.
An information line has been set up at 250-426-2188 or toll free 1-855-346-2188 and, when not staffed, will have a recorded message with the most updated information.
