Movember reminder

To date we are over $1,000.  Still have lots of time to go to this web site https://mobro.co/columbiavalleyrcmp  and make a donation. Reach our goal and I am going to color streak some of the hair I have left.

Wives

When asked what is the worst part of police work or the most difficult, that answer is very fast coming and easy to answer. It is knocking on the door to do a ‘next of kin notification’ to let someone know of a death; in most cases an unexpected death as a result of an accident.

So, where am I going to find humor in this? You can’t; but I did. While working in Golden I was very much involved with the Junior B hockey team. One fundraising event involved coat checks for a dance.  I was in charge of getting hangers; needed 300 at least. I’m hitting up all my friends.  I was working and decided to hit up the Kliewers. Arnie is a police officer I worked with in Golden and this particular evening that I dropped by to see his wife Kelly to get extra hangers, Arnie was working traffic out on the highway.

I’m in uniform, it is raining and miserable. Kelly answers the door and I advise her I need to come in and talk to her. Immediately she goes hysteric on me demanding to know if Arnie is okay. She starts pacing the floor, asking if he’s hurt and what happened to him? She’s ready to drop to the floor.  I’ve known Arnie for a good number of years and rather than shake your hands he wants hugs and when Kelly asked, “what happened to Arnie?” all I could think of was maybe the doctor dropped him when he was born and that’s why Arnie is the way he is.

However, I realize what Kelly is going through and why she thinks I’m at her door officially in uniform. So I quickly inform her once I got her calmed down, that I want her extra clothes hangers. All I got from her was “Hangers?”

“Ya, that’s all I want.” I replied.  “Arnie is ok?” she wanted to confirm.  As Arnie was on Traffic section, I lied and told her “he is just fine, now what about the hangers?”  Wives, go figure.
