Six roadside suspensions in valley during Checkstop blitz
On December 2, Elk Valley Regional RCMP participated in the National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day for the RCMP throughout the Elk Valley area.
Road checks were completed in Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie throughout the evening hours, with some members focused on impaired driving enforcement like in other areas of the province.
Efforts produced one roadside suspension (24 hour) for drug use, three provincial roadside suspensions (Immediate Roadside Prohibition three-day warnings) and two 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.
All investigations but one (Sparwood) were located in Fernie. Officers were on the road for over several hours completing check stops in all communities.
“Staff had prepared Candy Cane Check Stop appreciation tickets to hand out to those drivers who were found to be obeying provincial and criminal driving regulations. We appreciate all drivers who obey any traffic law to keep our roads safer during the holidays and, of course, any other time of year,” stated S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
